It's Me Again...

So, I don't have internet at my new home.  The only place I can connect is the local ward building where we all meet for school each day, but I haven't had time between school and field trips to write anything.  I also have found that I have lost the cord that connects my camera to my computer, so I'll have to look for that.  I know I have it, it's probably under the mess of my stuff in my room.  So pictures on are a short hiatus.

But here's the low-down on my new situation:  I am living in Kyoto, Japan right now.  I've moved in with a lovely LDS family, the Matsunagas.  They're a very young family, and their English is pretty good, since they both lived and went to school in Utah.  Matsunaga-shimai (Sister Matsunaga) went to UVU, but I'm not sure about Matsunaga-kyoudai (Brother Matsunaga).  They have four children: Shizuku-chan is 11, Sonomi-chan is 9, Sakura-chan is 8 (recently baptized), and Subaru-kun is 6.  A big family for Japanese, but not quite big for Mormons.

Everyone is super nice, and really accommodating.  I usually talk to Matsunaga-shimai, since her husband is usually out at work, and the kids are a little shy of me.  She's really good about using Japanese I'll understand, but still speaking normally, challenging me a bit.  I'm not sure if she does it on purpose, but I do know this family has played host to other BYU students before, so maybe she's just got the hang of it.

School isn't too bad.  My teacher is very reasonable about the amount of work, and the type of work, we do.  The only catch is the internet thing, which is pretty much vital to our homework.  We're trying to fix that.  We're planning on taking a couple of field trips as a group while we're here, and we'll be expected to do a couple on our own, and report on them.  Two days ago, we went to a shrine in downtown Kyoto and got a crash course in Japanese archery.  Just about the coolest thing ever.  Today, we'll be going to Fushimi Inari Shrine.  I don't know if this is the official name in the West, but I first heard of it as "The Shrine of 1000 Torii."  A torii is the gate that marks the entrance of a Shinto shrine, and is pretty much an icon for Japan.
I'm really excited, this is a place I've always wanted to go.  Lots of pictures will be taken!  And hopefully uploaded...
